Thanks for the truely useful information! this is exactly the type of stuff
I'm looking for. I dont even mind using a modner fry pan if I KNOW what the
"right" kind looks like and can keep my eyeballs peeled for one.

Those footed rings are dang handy, by the way (IKEA sells them as plant
stands. Silly IKEA). You can put a screaming hot pot on them away from the
fire and not burn the grass, etc. you can set a simmering pot off to the
side with some coals underneath and keep it burbling happily along (very
handy when its a modnen flat bottomed pot/skillet).

The medieval camp kitchens use a di-pod (?) gizmo...you should check it
out. I plan on printing the picture and askingmy blacksmith friends to make
me a toy...
