If you are worried about the pollutant content of the soil, how about raised
bed gardening where you line the raised bed with plastic sheeting on
drainage gravel[poke a bunch of small holes to let the excess water drip
out] and fill with potting soil or dirt imported from out in the rural area
somewhere?
