For those of us who are relatively new to period cooking, and are not good
judges of what is and what is not period, what book would you recommend as
the first for our library? I have a copy of Fabulous Feasts and some
greek/italian/biblical recipe books, but none of them really give dates.

Brenna of Lyonsbane requested a couple of recipes that I don't have and
ideas for an outdoor feast in primitive circumstances. That I have done,
and I have recipes available at
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~jscole
/gosfeast.htm
Some dishes are period, some are
not. Perhaps it will spark some ideas.
