An excellent suggestion.  The objective of the exercise was to bake a
cottage loaf on a griddle.  I used the metal bowl because it was available.
Terra cotta may or may not work better depending on how it handles heat
transference compared to the griddle.  I'll have some more fun with field
expedient baking over the next few months.
