Yes indeed, and could be just local supply vs imports. I know they are grown
all over the world, but not necessarily in commercial/exportable quantities.
Ours (in Australia) mostly come from China, but also from various middle
eastern countries. The reason I know about China is that a year or so ago,
the price skyrocketed to about $28 per kilo. Since I buy pine nuts
frequently (I cook middle eastern a lot) and thought this was outrageous, I
cross examined my vendor who directed me to a food distribution magazine
which had this article on a recent drought in China affecting all the pinion
pines... (hey more trivia)
