I agree whole heartedly with Master Adamantius' comments on your problem and a
few to add of my own.

It sounds like the individual in question has always gotten her by throwing
these kind of fits, or through the threat of doing it.  This means, in effect,
she is controling your group by making scenes any time she feels threatened.
If you let her continue to get away with this, the chances are good that your
group will begin to stagnate because everyone will be afraid to do any
reasearch that might challenge her.  The solution is to keep doing your
research and present your findings in a calm manner.  If she gets upset,
remember that you aren't making a fool of her, she is making a fool of herself
by reacting the way she does.  It will take nerves of steel to survive, but
eventually she will either stop making scenes or will fade out of the group.
