Looks like the name has transferred since 1614 -- in Castelvetti, Fava
del Morte is actually a sort of fava bean paste.

Bean pastes in the 17th-19th centuries were often sweetened.  Would
there be any chance that what you find is likewise, a sweetened starch
product?
