Exactkly, Steffan! :-) The bulbs are dug in the fall for those who live in
climates wear the ground freezes to at least 6 inches. They are dug after the
leaves die off which is well after blooming season. In fact, The bulbs grow
larger if yo8 pick the blooms after 2 or 3 flowers on the stalk have opened.
By saving the bublets attached at the bottom and planting these in shallow
drills the next year. You can without any problem have several hundred bulbs
by the thrird year. And thereafter a large edible crop on a yearly basis
providing you size your crop and only eat those that are over1 and a half
inches. With the right growing conditions a gladiolus bulb can attain
diensions up to 3 inches or so across..
