Or you could volunteer at every kitchen for the next year and do that same
feast again next year and figure out how to make it better.

A sign-up sheet at the troll works pretty well, usually...have the
person who keeps and maintains the list make sure that the people who
sign up AREN'T the people who are cooking. Have a herald make an
announcement evry so often that volunteers are needed. If you don't have
enough volunteers by 4 PM or so, have the autocrat go around and
exercise a bit of, um, executive privelege, and play, "Tag, you're it!".
Somewhere in there the populace could be tactfully reminded that you (or
whoever is cooking) are putting in a lot of work, which is presumably
not being reflected in the price of the feast, and that it would be nice
if the cooks were not the only ones who recognize a civic duty... .

I did an EK 12th Night feast a few years back, and I was more or less
forcibly ejected from the kitchen by Sir Timothy of Arindale, then (and
currently) Crown Prince of the East, along with several squires, who
attacked the pots and pans with military enthusiasm. This has always
been one of the formative experiences for my attitude about the peerage.

Repeat this mantra as follows: For two weeks, scream "Never again!". For
the following two weeks say nothing. Then begin planningthe next one...
