I would never depend on the 'coffee-table' or Martha Stewart type of books for
edible plants.  Go to one of the good wild food books (The old Stalking series
comes to mind) if you are looking for edible plants.  A really good one was
Wild Food Cookbook and Field Guide by Billy Joe Tatum which included recipes.
Also, think there was one by Angier Biddle which is a bible on edible wild
plants.  Some of his things weren't very palatable, but at least they were
safe to eat.
