Greetings!
I term myself a recovering alcoholic, 14+ years sober. I choose to eat
foods that have wine/alcohol etc. as ingredients and do enjoy the non-
alcoholic beverages. However, not every recovering person can handle that.
Each individual must choose how best to handle his/her program. My 12 step
program friends thought I was looking to get loaded when I started playing SCA
because there was alcohol at most all events. Then I married a man who drank.
No doubt about it, I was headed off the wagon! But that was 10 years ago. I
guess I'm lucky, the taste of alcohol in foods has never triggered the craving
to drink again for me.
I view my addiction as an illness and it is MY responsibility to control
my condition by avoiding things that could/might cause me problems. I have
never expected the cook at an event to do something special on my behalf.
