Absolutely! The trick with period food is the same as with modern food - it
needs to be cooked by good cooks. People with a love of good food,
enthusiasm, skill and good taste will produce good food (or have the nouse
not to serve it if it didn't work well). People who don't like cooking, or
have had little practice and blindly follow a recipie without tasting and
testing as they go (let alone in advance) will often produce period (or
modern) food which is less than wonderful.

Besides, why go to all that trouble to dress up (joke - I am heavily into
costume) and then eat meat and 3 veg? 

For newcomers, I would't serve anything too challenging, ie stuff that
experienced medieval food eaters would think twice about. That leave almost
everything else, though...
