The use of a filler also provides a medium for soaking up juices as the laof
is baked with the resulting product being much moister and succulent.

Nope, wasn't me said that... the only meatloaf I have ever had or made has
always had filler.  Oatmeal in the red-meat and somewhere a russian recipe for
a salmon-loaf with rice in it (no I am not being a spoon tease, I just cant
find the *&%$! recipe!)
