<< I try to avoid it, but when you are deliberately excluded from
activities that are planned by the shire or have people making snide
comments aloud about you/your persona at events...it's kind of hard. I
have repeatedly volunteered to hold office in my shire, but because I am
not part of a certain person's little groupie have been refused. Our
new seneschal is trying to cut down on the cliquish, but it's been hard.

My dream of the SCA....where people are accepted on their merits, not
their bank books. Where people are recognized for who they are, not who
they know. Where people can enjoy their research and have their fun
 too. >>
Sorry to hear of your discomfort and it seems to me you have hurt feeling in
this area. Well, not to be rude or crass welcome to the real world, what
happens when people forget it is a game of honor and civility and allow their
real world ways to intrude. Now my analogy of "power" in the SCA is a group of
starving people fighting over a "picture" of bread not even the real thing but
still they must have it. You have a decision to make you are at a cross roads
do you ignore it or allow it to cripple you? You can make fun of them but that
puts you in there same boat or you can defend yourself with a little humor and
your own native intelligence. If they feel you are not properly dressed let
them show their "Christian charity " and cloth you properly wail behind them
as is proper for a "peasant" seeking charity in other words turn the tables in
a period style and remain in character petition the King for relief from His
over bearing taxes etc. get the idea However do this only to get the point
across a little humor can and does go a long way and continue with what makes
you happy not what others say prefect your own talent and find those who are
willing to help and make friends with them as for volunteering in your shire
keep offering cliques come and they go but true nobility is forever and it
doesn't hurt to gripe with your friend once in awhile its healthy I hope this
helps since i have been there I know of what i speak keep the dream and your
humor
                                                                   Joram semi-
noble
