Reading all the assorted menus for Thanksgiving can only put a lie to the
traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. All of these feasts sound wonderful and,
although a commonality is readily apparent based on variety and 'special'
dishes, I can only wonder how a the myth of the 'Traditional Dinner' started.

Ah, but some of us *do* have very "traditional" dinners! ;-) Our day was
spent mostly with my lord's family, and the meal was full of general Southern
and family-specific favorites:

Roast turkey, of course
Gravy from the drippings
Cornbread dressing, baked in a separate dish from the turkey
Cranberry sauce--canned for the unimaginative, and cranberry salad for the
rest of us
Broccoli and cheese casserole, from a family recipe
Scalloped potatoes
Sweet potato casserole--sweet enough for dessert, with a topping of brown
sugar, pecans, and butter. *Wonderful* stuff!
Whole-wheat egg-and-milk enriched rolls
Iced tea--sweet, of course. This *is* the South, after all! ;-)

	And for dessert:
Two kinds of pumpkin pie--one the "traditional" custard type, one a family
recipe with no eggs that some folks prefer.
Pecan pie
Chocolate chip cheesecake

Nothing unusual to be found on this table (Not for *this* crowd, that I've
sometimes wondered if were traumatized by an herb plant in infancy!), but the
food is tasty and the appearance of the standard holiday dishes punches all
the right buttons to make it feel like a "proper" Thanksgiving.........

Ldy Diana, still stuffed, but wishing she'd managed to come home with some
of the sweet potatoes.................. ;-)
