It is entirely possible that things truly happened which are not written down
- - in fact, quite probable.  However, you can't PROVE it is true unless there
is some sort of record of it.  I can prove that medieval people ate stews made
from meat and fruit, as well as vegetable stews/soups, because we have
surviving recipes for them from medieval manuscripts.   We have no surviving
recipes indicating that meat and vegetables were combined in the same
stew/soup.  It is possible that these two ingredients were combined, since
they were both available and both cooked in this manner, but there is no proof
that it was ever done because we have no record of it.  Therefore, we can't
say that it is "true" that medieval people ate meat and vegetable stews.  We
can say that it is true that they ate meat and fruit stews, and vegetable
stews, but only possible that they could have eaten meat and vegetable stews.
