I was going to say, what about individual pies, or slices of pie?  But then

There's also the option that I see in novels: hunks o'bread and chuncks
o'cheese, and if the story is about rich folk, hunks of cold meat as well. 
Accompanied by bottles of beer or skins of wine and apples.  Sounds an awful
lot like the typical SCA event lunch.
