SC - OT-European vs. Middle Eastern

Okay. Study medieval medicine, and you study, essentially, an Eastern
science. Eat period court food, and you eat Eastern almonds, spices,
herbs, and aromatics. Fight in the Crusades, and you _go_ to the East to
establish a Western dominion in the East. Try telling Roland al-Islam
had no influence on the West. Try telling al-Andalus it didn't exist as
a Moorish land on the Iberian peninsula. Who did Charles Martel fight
against? Then, of course, we have the Japanese living in Venice in
period, to say nothing of the Mongols who made it into Poland in period.

Certainly one can argue for and against the propriety of an "Eastern"
persona in the SCA, but to ignore or deny the influence of the East is
to admit defeat in understanding the West.

And, IIRC, Corpora doesn't mention Europe, it just says Western Culture,
and it was deliberately left vague, as far as I can tell.
