Costs for feasts...

In Lochac you get a free space in the Pegasus calendar list, but not
free space for a flyer. You want to really attract people to your event,
you need a flyer.

I suppose too our costs are different generally.

For a big event your costs can be pretty scary. (I will use the 12th
night investiture event I autocratted two years ago as an exemplar)

12th night's venue cost $1500 for the weekend. We catered lunch and
dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. We were required to give the
Principality $4 per head towards the travel fund. The food was figured
out at about $4 per head for each lunch and $6 for dinner. We actually
came in under budget by a reasonable bit ~$1000 total (75% of that went
to the Principality funds). We expected 250 people and got that. (though
at one stage the constables told me there were 350 and caused a bit of a
panic!) But our budget had to be based on the lowest number of
expected attendees. We figured that if only the Barony attended and a
few others, we would still get 150 people, so our figures were based on
covering our costs at that number.

The money that the Barony made in profit disappeared into 50 platters,
20 table cloths, 30 table runners, 10 servers tabards, 5 servers skirts,
10 servers chemises, 5 servers trousers, ink to print griffins on them
etc.

I think the final sum that people paid at the door was $30. There is no
way on earth that you could get three meals cooked for you for that
amount in Canberra, certainly not of the standard that we offered.

Note: offboard does not exist as a concept in Lochac. Because our
largest events are still only 250-300 people catering is still practical
and expected. People are expected to eat, and you would have to arrange
a special deal with the feast steward to not eat. People don't. They
either come or don't. We do have potlucks which are quite amazing in
variety, which are a low cost alternative for families etc. but no
events where there is a mix of off and onboard.

In Canberra, sandwiches for lunch cost between $3.50 to $5. A hot lunch
at a moderately priced restaurant in my area will cost between $8.50 and
$12. Dinner would cost about $12.50-$18 for mains only. For a guide to
how that works in proportion to income, I am in the public service on
the low side of the pay scale. (about $30,000 pa) My income after tax
each fortnight is about $980.

A very swish and expensive restaurant might cost $100-150 for dinner for
two (inc entree and dessert and a bottle of wine).
