For the ham covered in cider, I'd have used one of my 3 dutch ovens.  The
tops don't melt in the oven--they are meant to go there.  If you leave a
lid upside down on the stove and someone else pushes it onto a burner
that is on, you can damage the lid handle.  Pyrex/Corning Ware etc. deep
casseroles will also work.


A good pot/pan/casserole will last most of your life, Stefan--if not
more, which is why I have mine, Mother's, and Stepmother's.  Don't buy
the cheap aluminum.  I have some, from my very young
married-and-still-in-school-no-money days, but they are never the ones I
reach for.  They do go to Pennsic, though, if they've survived.  But, so
do the cast aluminum heavy pots.
