I don't know about the threading on one end but the other sounds like the tool
you used to lift the "burner" disks on the top of the an old cast iron stove.
(At least that is what my lord and I think it sounds like.)

I would also like to second the suggestions to be careful around the stove and
to also be aware that they can stay hot for some time after the fire is out.
My in-laws have a huge old cast iron cookstove they call Aunt Mercy in their
kitchen that they fire up in the winter.  Going it can heat the whole house,
chases everyone out of the kitchen quickly and will stay hot or warm to the
touch for hours.  When he was younger my husband recieved a nasty burn running
into Aunt Mercy while going to the bathroom early in the morning after the
fire had been out for 3hours or so.
