Yes, all related, nevertheless, my sister in law constantly reminds me
that she is allergic to broccoli and then turns around and eats cabbage
and brussels sprouts and cauliflower.

I am in fact allergic to all cruciferous vegetables (but I'm not
your sister-in-law). I'm less allergic to the raw than to the
cooked; I sat at a table with a bunch of botany and agronomy
students in Saskatoon and listened to them discuss the protein
that I'm allergic to and my "missing enzyme" and the gruesome
	things involved in digestive collapse...

That said, I was almost certain the broccoli was new. So new in fact
that I learned this when I read of the death of the Italian immigrant
who bred it and for whom it is named. I suppose it is possible that he
simply named a particular variation that gained popularity in this
century.

I've read it both ways. It was not mentioned in the cool little
handbook from the Italian Trade Consulate belonging to my friend
Mistress Katherine Holford as an item whose history was traced--
although potatoes, corn, tomatoes and peppers were written of at
	length.

	Interested in some definitive sources...
