I don't know what "not acceptable" means. In all kingdoms that I have
experienced, serving dishes that are not at all period is quite common at
SCA feasts--unfortunately. I assume the person who said it was not was
describing her standards (which I agree with), not some rule about what is
permitted in her kingdom.

My impression is that the idea that there is a "period palate" which people
have to be educated into is most common among those who have not done much
period cooking. Period recipes cover a very wide range, and in most cases
things such as how highly spiced they are reflect the tastes of the cook,
not the recipe, given that the recipes rarely specify quantities.
