You're right, it's Fairbanks, Alaska. And I have never seen whole nutmeg in
any of our handful of grocery stores (6 including Sams, down from 8 in the
last few months, not counting the one remaining oriental store). We're
lucky to get the fresh herbs and recent variety of fresh and dried
mushrooms that we do have up here. There are a lot of items that don't make
it up here, for just the reasons above, including coca-cola in glass
bottles anymore (my own personal annoyance).

Thanks for the thought, Adamantius, but as you can tell from my other post
- -- I did find whole nutmeg and am ready to go. Usually we're more prepared.
I've got a small order due tomorrow from Spice World in Seattle for things
like grains of paradise and long pepper, and we also order from Penzey's.
We just didn't notice the nutmeg ingredient in the second spice mixture
needed for our recipes until it was too late to order any. Hence the
original post.
