For Ras and others:

Try a science experiment:  pH and pigments

Get some purple cabbage (only a two leaves are needed) and
blend it with water (about a litre) until the pulp turns
white and the water is colored.  Strain the juice and divide
it into different containers.  Try putting baking soda,
Sprite, vinegar  etc... to see the effects differing pH
values have on the plant's pigments.  Is purple cabbage is
period (?)  You can get a whole range (pink through blue) of
colored solutions.

An interesting activity for the young ones to play with on
an afternoon.
