True!  I'd been doing redacting for years before I ever heard the term! 
Could you put translate/modernize into parenthese following the word
'redact', please?  Then, they will learn the word we use so much.  Our
FAQ should be read by a neighbor or family member who knows nothing about
the SCA; if it's understandable to them, we go for it.
