Both squash and sweet potatoes are from the New World. Columbus was late
15th century, so it isn't impossible for New World foods to be eaten in
Europe pre-1600, but they seem to be almost nonexistent in the pre-1600
cookbooks.

Or in other words, it is possible but not likely.
