You can/t really be serious, Stefan. Providing special dishes to high table is
no more 'misuse' of funds than buying shire archery equipment for the archers
or shire armor for the fighters. And what about the things that are bought fot
calligraphy/illumination classes or the money spent on books for the herald's
office? Or demos or whatever?

All of those purchases are are geared toward special 'interest' groups and are
all legitimate use of funds. Funds are to be used for non-profit educational
purposes. It is absurd to comtemplate what a mess things would be in if the
criteria for fund spending envolved descisions based on the fact that some
people were benefiting more than others from a particular expenditure.

IMO, the concepts of 'universal equality' and other such myths, absurd as they
are, should be confined to the mundane political arena. It is neither
practical nor in the best interests of the SCA to consider them when a shire
is doing recreation activities. For all practical purposes, any expenditure of
funds necessitates the exclusion of those not directly involved or interested
in the activity for which the expenditure was made. The service of High Table
is a part of that recreation, as are the other activities we do.

Already the Brewer's Guilds are literally paralyzed by the ridiculous rules on
alcohol purchase which, BTW, also have been interpreted to prohibit the
purchase of non-alcoholic ingredients when they are being used to produce
alcohol. Would you have the same type of thought invade the Kitchen and open
the door for allergy sufferers, food aversionists, anti-Royalists and other
minoritys to be able to control the content of the Feast?

Just a thought or two......
