I happen to agree with both of you. However, is this really any different
than having a meal at an event for specific group such as a peerage or
landed barons and baronesses which is paid for by the event fees but
which only a "privaledged few" may participate in?

Perhaps this no longer goes on in Ansteorra, but years ago I decided I
would not attend events that did this. I believe coronations were the main
events where this was done.

It may be splitting hairs, but serving special dishes or the same dishes with 
special, more expensive ingredients to the the high table might also be
considered 
to be a similar misuse of event or group money. I am undecided myself on this one.
