put an end to the repies for cats etc.. it's starting to gross me out.

William, for a change, I must agree with Ras. Granted, we've been joking a
bit about the cat recipes, but cats, dogs, horses, in fact almost any
animal I can think of has been eaten in our time period, so you're going to
find us discussing them, including details of butchering. Also, many body
parts which we normally throw out or grind for dog food or hot dogs are
frequently eaten- in recent months, we've had recipes for mountain oysters,
bull penises, tongue, eyeballs, ears, chicken feet (along with chicken
combs, wing tips and necks were considered delicacies), lungs, stomachs, in
fact every part of an animal has likely been eaten by someone in our period
of study. There are recipes I've seen for hides, too.

And don't be too certain as to what you may or may not have eaten- the only
people who can be really sure of that in the US are people who have kept
absolutely Kosher throughout their entire lives. I'm sure Oz is no
different. If you've ever eaten in a fast food restaurant, chances are
you've eaten horse meat. I once helped take a load of horses down to the
slaughterers, and you'd be interested in the fast food trucks pulling out
fully loaded. The only difference, to our palate, between horse meat and
beef, is that it's slightly sweeter, and the butchers pay a higher dollar
for an older horse because the flesh is darker and looks closer to beef.
That is actually what the popular Wendy's commercial about "Where's the
beef" was all about.

There is actually a website out there with recipes for "long pig", human
flesh, not to mention Jonathan Swift's famous essay, "A Modest Proposal".

It's a wide world out here, William, and it doesn't accomodate itself to
our societal prejudices.

Or, to be more blunt, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
