SC - RE: Tasting Dinners

This is tricky, and I am thankful that my solution works well for me. It
does not work well for others, tho. Here's what we do:

"tasting dinners" are $5.00 per head (what we usually get for a feast
budget around here), and we get to cook the stuff first. If we overshoot,
the extra money can be spent on luxuries that the Barony may not want to
foot. This moeny does not exist as far as the excheqeur is concerned. We're
just a private group of food lovers.

For special dishes and sotelties at feasts, generally these are donated,
unless really cheap. I bought the gold leaf for a gingerbread and marzipan
soteltie, for instance. I don't want the leftovers going into the kitchen
box and either getting ruined, stolen, or misused (our group has a long
history of dissapearing supplies). High table gets what we get. Sometimes
it's ornamentation is fancier. But they get what the rest get, and if they
recieve something special, it has come out of someone's pocket, not the
group funds. It's up to that person to serve it, as well, because I've got
enough scheduling headaches dealing with special high table servers, etc.

Perhaps this no longer goes on in Ansteorra, but years ago I decided I
would not attend events that did this. I believe coronations were the main
events where this was done.

It may be splitting hairs, but serving special dishes or the same dishes
with
special, more expensive ingredients to the the high table might also be
considered
to be a similar misuse of event or group money. I am undecided myself on
this one.
