Well, I did know that an American gallon of water weighs just over 8.3 lbs. at
sea level and room temperature.  I guess the "a pint's a pound" thingy was
just a good rule of thumb for liquids.

Mordonna (by the way, good 4% fresh milk weighs 8.6 lbs. to the gallon at 1300
feet and 36 degrees F)
