Lebkuchen recipies haven't changed very much; you could get them from
modern cookboos that specialize in authentic celebrations.  These are
delicious cookies, lots of honey and spices, prettily cut, molded, and
decorated.  They were and still are a favorite German Christmas treat. 
You can make a nice subtlety, use as an entremet, keep the children of
the group happy, decorate in Barony/shire/personal heraldry, etc.  They
can, and should, be made ahead and stored in tin boxes.  Except for the
honey, very little expense, no work on the day, and a nice addition to a
banquet course.
