Phillipa,

Having just has this discussion several times with several different people, the
conscencus is this "While a wedding may be held at an SCA event, it may not be an
integral part of the event. Nothing for the wedding may be purchased by the group.
The feast may not be billed as a "wedding feast" and any special requests for food on
the menu is strictly between the cook and the couple and not the providence of the
SCA. The SCA does not sanction weddings or support them. That is up to the happy
couple." What THL Elspeth had envisioned (not approved nor denied) for the wedding
was that she would rent the hall herself, have her wedding in the morning, have her
reception (on her), close the wedding, set up for an event, open troll with her as
hostess/steward and myself as kitchen steward, we would have the traditional winter
event of Marinus (as my counterpart can tell you, that is Midwinter Masque) with a
feast. The only thing that was undecided was whether Elspeth could buy a wedding cake
and put it out on the dessert table during the ball or whether she would have to serve
it during the reception before the event. Like I said, this is undecided at this
time. Marinus may elect to pass on the free hall for the event and miss on the
profits in which case the event will be "unofficial" and a wedding feast. Or, Marinus
may take us up on the offer and make the money from the event. We should find out in
a month or so.
