Of course, you can!  Cook it both ways, eat it, and make up your mind
from the results.  You will come as close to the 'authentic taste' as we
ever do, not having been there.  In one way, you won't feel there are
enough pine nuts, or else the other way will be too much.  


#138 may be clearer, as there you have wine and vinegar in your bruet. 
'tweydel' of wine versus '[th]riddle' of vinegar.  Hieatt thinks that the
meaning of 'tweydel' is second part, i.e., half as much.  You wouldn't
tend to use more vinegar than wine if you used it instead of wine,
because of the sharpness of the taste.
