Thank-you for sharing the imformation on the use of whale meat in cookery. I
am grateful.

The discussion of some topics are distasteful to some but I find the entire
corpora of culinary subjects extraordinarily interesting. I have been trying
to gather information on several subjects over the past several years which
may or may not be distasteful to some people including, but not limited to,
whale and dolphin recipes, 'long pig,' dormice, insect and reptile cookery,
etc. And, of course, the oft neglected 'organ' meat recipes (e.g., liver,
kidneys, sweet breads, brains, blood, eyes, assorted glands such as testicles
and pancreas).

As modern humans we oftentimes place ourselves above the rest of the
omnivores in the animal kingdom and adopt a somewhat snobbish attitude about
what is edible or not edible. That attitude is culturally instilled and
changes with each generation. A modern example of cultural influence on
eating is the current trend to undercook vegetables which started as a medical
recommendation and is now almost universally accepted as the only way that
vegetables are palatable. 'Tender-crisp' is one term I've seen used with
regularity. (FYI, I, personally like my veggies raw or well done. :-)).

Based on the information I have collected so far, it is very evident that
throughout the history of mankind, he has regularly eaten anything that does
not poison him. The obvious conclusion is that man is, as a species, one of
the most efficient garbage disposals created. Unfortunately, he is also the
most prolific creator of garbage.

Be that as it may, man's entire history is a history of food...what he eats
and what he does to insure a steady supply of food. And, that history is one
that should be preserved, IMO.
