Could this be a recipe for making a castle showpiece?  In that case, the above
might translate as "Carve out squarish (?) pieces (Keyntlich = something to do
with square? kyrnels= kernals) from the top edges of the coffin in the manner
of battlements and dry it (the castle) until hard in an oven or in the sun. " 

Could "ew ardent" be "eau ardent", ie strong spirits?  

A question:  did period cooks ever set alcohol alight as in flambe?  A castle
in flames would be quite a showpiece, indeed.

Just some guesses (some pretty far out, I'm sure).
