You still want to let the manufacturer know.  They put their name on the
product and they are responsible for the quality control of the materials
they purchase to produce their product, of the processes they use to
manufacture the product, and of the distribution of the product.  A
reputable company will put up with a little hell-raising to maintain their
customer base.
