" is the Barony/shire/parent group put to the expense of the wedding or do
the bride & groom kick in bucks? It would seem an awful financial burden to
 the group "

Having just attended a "period wedding" of some very dear friends, I can't
resist a comment ... The couple researched and reproduced a traditional
Celtic Handfasting, attended by friends, business associates and families and
led by a Wiccan Priestess. Those in attendance wore the period clothes they
felt comfortable in, modern garb and every combination in between. Friends
who could not present them with costly gifts, presented them instead with
personal talents in the way of flower arranging, food for a buffet and musical
accompanyment. The couple made their committment, shared with friends without
going into astronomical debt and a grand time was had by all! The wedding was
lovely. Noone was unduly or financially burdened beyond the means that they
allowed it and the couple was set off on ther new prtnership in an atmosphere
of love and giving unlike any "traditional" twentieth century wedding I have
ever attended!

  1) Attending any wedding involves as much financial burden as you allow it.
i.e. just because the registry is at Tiffany's doesn't mean you must shop
there.

  2) a wedding does not necessarily require the drama and expense of a fairy
tale event unless the couple require it.

 3) A "period" wedding is no more financial burden on family or friends than
any other and can be less because it is freed of the restrictions of Emily
Post-ish restriction and tradition.

 4) What is there to disapprove of??? The style of a wedding is very
personal and everyone is entitled to plan what they want. It may be one of
the only times you get to live out a dream.

Nuff said - What about wedding traditions amongst the lower classes????

Any one have any info already researched?
