Greetings to all,

I'm new to the list and have not previously posted - you all know so much
more than I do - I just like to cook and am just getting into SCA
cooking.

However, that said, this thread I had to post to.

One, NEVER use any type of can that is bulged for any reason.
Botulism is a really bad thing. My suggestion - (and I am a
canner's daughter thru and thru no matter how long I have not lived at
home or how long my parents have been retired) so I speak from experience
- - is one take the cans back to the market where you purchased them.
They, if they are reputable, should get you your money back. In
addition, take your receipt and any numbers off the top or bottom of the
can and write the canner directly. They are able to track the
"batch" thru said numbers. They need to know that
something went wrong so they can fix it.

Many times, people are hesitant to contact a manufacturer - I do it when
necessary. I do not expect free merchandise - and tell them so in
the letter - but explain what the problem was and emphasize that the
letter is a courtesy to them for informational purposes.

I have gotten letters in response thanking me for the information.
Oftentimes, coupons etc are also enclosed. Again, I do not do this
to "get something for fre" but because coming from the industry
I understand the necessity of companies being aware of potential
problems.
Who is now off her soap box and resting!
