I also put 1 scant tsp of suger in the red-eye gravy but always thicken it
with flour. 

On another note> when rosting beef or doing a pot roast the use of cooffe as
the liquid produces an absolutely to die for dish. The first job I had was at
a small family owned Italian restaurant called 'The Liberty Post' and the
owner, Mr. Farfaglia, always did his roasts this way. And , yes, those who
think they are allergic to caffiene because they get the side effects of
wakefulness from it or are otherwise caffiene impaired can use decaf if they
think they must. :-)
