Ok, this may be pricey, BUT, if you're gonna do it, go all the way right???

Why not make some of that candy out of pine nuts or anise seed or cinnamon
that is half honey and half sugar, form it into nuggets (easy) or coins and
gild them!  If you need a source for edible gold and silver leaf for this
project, let me know privately.
