Near as I can remember from the mind-numbing lecture my dad gave me, one 
makes a slurry of crushed rose petals and water, then force super-heated 
steam thru the slurry one or more times, then condense the steam. Voila!  I 
seem to remember him stating that it couldn't be done in a kitchen -- or 
maybe he just didn't want me trying it in *his* kitchen.
