Yes. Any type of distilling is covered by the law. However, permits are
available for distilling essential oils. Unfortunately, as has been pointed
out by someone, unless you have the apporpriate leagl documentation detailing
the exact law(s) you want the permit for and know in advance exactly what
you are asking for, the federal employees will do little to help you out. The
stock phrase from them is 'I've never heard of anybody doing that.' This
seems to, in their pea sized brains, cover any further need to look into it.
BTW, this applies to any gov't service on either a local or federal level. If
you get such uninformed responces, ask to speak to the supervisor, then their
supivisor, ad infinitum. Eventuall you will either speak to someone who
really knows their job and cares or, they will put someone to helping you
simply to get you out of their hair.
If all else fails, a comment card to the district or regional
manager/supervisor explaining how rude and unhelpful the employee was is
usually all it takes to set an ignorant or lazy employee on the right track
and open doors. :-)
