Yes, it is sometimes a question of whether to use period divisions of
food or modern. Generally I use modern. Then I just have to figure out
which modern category to put various, sometimes unusual period food items
in. :-)

In this case, I'll probably call the file jalabs-msg, but the description
that goes with it will be something like: period herbed sugar-based syrup
drinks like Sekanjabin. And while I usually put messages in in 
chronological order, this time I will put the message defining what a
jalab is as the first message. Or paraphrase the definition given here
and put it at the top. Some gentle education. *I* had never heard of
the term jalab until it was mentioned on this list.
