SFIK, The Rule regarding alcohol at events were instituted only within the last couple of years.
Her experience might have predated that regulation.

10 to 20 years ago it was not impossible to find events that served beer or wine, or made it available in some fashion, with the stipulation that All persons must follow liquor law.

In my barony, we went so far as to post the relevant liquor law at all damp and wet sites, along with the notice that the Autocrat would summarily evict from the site any abusers of the law, and had a "Liquor constable", whose job it was to make sure that underage drinkers and the like would be evicted, along with their entire party.

We had them, but never needed them.

Background on this.
A long time ago (14 years or so) we had access to a WONDERFUL site with a glorious kitchen. We thought of it as a likely Coronation site. It was Cheap, and they like the idea of having us there.
The site was "discretely damp" Meaning no hard liquor, no marked cans/bottles.
I was the autocrat for the first event we held there, and was responsible to the site.
At that event, one young man, ONE YEAR uinder the minimum drinking age, slipped in what was apparently a bottle of Jack Daniels. He proceded to get so drunk that he fell down a flight of stairs, hurting his back and apparently going unconscious, and the ambulance and, of course, the cops were called.
Everything worked out OK, and no arrests or fines were levied, BUT the site was scandalized, and would never rent to us again. Moreover, That entire town's sites seemed to close doors to us, so the church's personnel must have spread the story.
Since then, we have been unable to rent a hall, even get a call back, in that town.

So we got paranoid about this, for a while, until we were able to get over it.

I've _got_ to ask a couple of question about the "Fruit Soup". First, can I
have the recipe? Second, did this appear on the feast menu? Third, was anyone
concerned about the rule covering using SCA funds to supply alcoholic beverages?
