Haven't seen a Jewel since I left Illinois.  On the other hand, we did have
the Tea Company here (CT) until they closed the local store last spring -
part of what I understood to be a major nationwide (or at least chainwide)
cutback.

We had Safeway in Iowa.  And the one supermarket in Dunoon (Argyll) carried
Safeway brands, too. 8)

We had Piggly-Wiggly in Illinois, at least back in the late '60s, though I
think they did originate in the south.  My favourite chains (also southern)
are Harris-Teeter (just moved into the Norfolk area a couple years ago) and
Farm Fresh.
