I believe that one of the considerations in copying the manuscript was the
question of potential damage.  Light is one of the major sources of damage.  The
original poster may want to check with a paper conservator, the Foundation of
the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works has a
referral system.  Hope this helps.
