I do not know about period recipes. But I make a modern cake with bread
crumbs and ground pecans for the flour. Its a chocolate/approcote/pecan
torte with a semi sweet glaze of chocolate and than a layer of apricot brandy
glaze. Its toped with roses make of dried apricots and sweet chocolate rose
leaves.
