Hi,

I´m just back from a vacation trip to the North of Iceland so you may have
your answer already. "The third spice" nowadays almost always means MSG,
monosodium glutamate, but in older recipes, it may mean allspice. This term
is also sometimes used in the other Scandinavian languages, I believe.
